Nothing worked, the telephone, the shower. There was a door miising from the wardrobe. The place was not clean.
I was thankful to the hotel management who provided a complimentary upgrade from 'deluxe' to 'continental' room for one of our friends who were celebrating their anniversary.
Amenities were used and old.
The view from swimming pool was excelent. Good value for price.
The bathroom need to be renovated. I had a impression that waiters at restaurant weren't friendly to east asian people .

Hotel staffs were helpful & friendly . Location is very near to Komtar - shopping mall & bus terminal. Walk around 10 mins reach Jln McCalister hawker centre where has many delicious & famous food.
Room is a bit small but still consider ok. Breakfast time is very short till 10.30am only.
actually... the location very very excellent and valueable... because the hotel location is on heart of town... go bus stop only working 5 minute... i at penang 3 days on spend less than rm10 transport fees... very nice .......
Room service done daily. Room size was very comfortable and spacy. We can see the George Town view from our room or from the swimming pool on the top of the hotel building and it was so amazing.
From my observation, the hotel have less maintenance and short of staffs.
I need an electrical adapter for my cell phone charging so I phoned the receptionist. I waited for half an hour so I phoned again. Then the receptionist answered me with a bad attitude, saying that they are trying very hard to find one for me. I felt quite upset about her attitude, but finally an adapter is delivered to my room.

Very run down and too few facilities. Had to ask for towels on checking in. Too few power outlets.
The bathroom was flooded with water. The reception was awared of it but reserved this room for us although I hv made the reservation early. When i queried them they said they do not hv enough rooms. The hotel is in very poor shape & really really needs refurbishing.
Within reach of town center, like Penang Road, and penang roadside hawker food. very near main transport stations (bus stops, taxi stands) like komtar. a good view of the surroundings from the room window (Penang was recently awarded the World heritage status by the United Nation)
The hotel was built many years ago. Generally need re-furbishment, like tv reception need to be up graded. Carpet become smelly through the years, may be need to be changed to tiles. Lock sets belong to the sixties/seventies, may be need to be changed to the magnetic type etc for better security. Some of the doors show signs of decay. The flushing sound of next-door rooms can be loud in the nites (could be due to the building design). The car park lift need to be check for its function (cannot access the lift at level 4) phone directory not given. The card holder in the room is not funtioning so much so when you leave the room, all the lights and air-cond are not switch off wasting electricity.
The location of grand continental was perfectly heart of city and comfortable to travel.However, I was very disappointed with the Hotel management and services which is not value to money.Rooms was maintance is very bad e.g bathroom door was broken, ceiling is dirty, TV was not functioning in good condition.We booked 2 rooms, one bathroon have dustbin and another room was not provided.I have found other travellers belonging e.g undergourment at sofa.Its shows room cleaning service is bad.The breakfast is the same meals for 2days. Staff at Grand continental should have a politeness approaching visitors. NO safeguard at pooliside, children pool depth is deep. Lift door were closed before/about to enter into lift(door hit my head).
Lift function, room service,meals and staff behaviour need to change
The buffet breakfast was good. It served varieties of Malaysian food. The hotel location is convenient since close to Komtar and other shopping mall.
In my opinion, they can focus on improving the check in time. Basically, the improvement relies on customer service itself.
